Research on Quantitative and Qualitative...WHOA!!!
Let's just say that this course was a bit intense for me! Lots of reading to be working full time and planning and organization is key for this course!
I had a hard time understanding the difference between the two at first, but with lots of rereading and the help of my professor, I was able to come out strong. I learned the difference between the two is that qualitative research is to not only understand something for what could be physically visible, but also having a deeper understanding to the why and possibly the how. How things work is a great example of this methodology. As for quantitative, this methodology explains why there is a relationship between variables or identifies a research problem based on trends in the fields (Creswell, 2015. pg. 14)
I learned how to come up with study topics, experimental designs, and ethical considerations that may be considered when conducting a research that involves interviews with people. Lots of articles were reviewed and at times were very difficult to understand the difference between which articles were quantitative and qualitative. In the end, I was able to find the article and create my own qualitative study!
I see the importance of this course and the amount of work researchers take to provide the right information for readers. It is important for studies to take place so that we as educators can have a better understanding of the resources that are used inside and out of the classroom. Though this wasn't my favorite course, It was very beneficial to my knowledge on research and I learned to skills that are needed when the time comes to conduct my own.
