During this course I was very excited to dive right into the data process. I've been fortunate to join a team at my school that would help implement and help facilitate my learning. I quickly found out that this was a very challenging task.
I quickly learned that collecting data takes lots of planning and preparation. Being prepared to collect data comes from planning how effectively it will be collected. I learned that a team must be created. This team is a collection of faculty staff members that have invested in student learning and want to change or improve how information is collected. I also learned that Microsoft Excel is a data's coach best friend! Using this tool allows all parties to have a visual of the data collected in the school. It gives teachers, administration, whomever is viewing a clear understanding on what is occurring in the school and opens doors for recommendations.
The most valuable Field Experience for this course was the Data Team Overview. I had a hard time using Excel and needed lots of assistance with the tool. This was valuable to me because I was able to really wrap my head around the entire concept o Excel and was fulfilled when I was able to accomplish the task.
I plan on being more involved in the Data Team and using my skills that I learned through this course. Because I took this course in the summer, I wasn't able to read the entire book that was for the course. I plan on focusing on tables provided in the text and taking notes that will help me become a more experienced coach so that I may use my skills to facilitate others.
Some challenges I will encounter varies. I think it might be a bit challenging creating a team. I hope that I can engage them with an elevator speech that will make them join volunteer. I'm hoping I can deliver a great pitch that will attract the right people for the job and build a strong relationship with the end goal in mind. Student Success.
